Ward off the Evil Eye With Eyeliner

I am so superstitious. 

I recently read somewhere (I know, I should footnote, but just believe me)-- that in India, aside from aesthetic reasons, the eyes are lined with kohl or lampblack (kajol) in order to deflect the evil eye. Especially on children, who are considered to be perfect, and therefore more likely to draw the ire of malintentioned people. In ancient Egypt, smokey eyes were also widely regarded to ward off evil spirits.  

I had no idea that my daily eyeliner habit was helping me out so much :)
